How It All Began

Pausa y Danza was born in the lush jungle of Tulum, where two Colombians, Angie and Gus, crossed paths while each on their own journey of reconnection.

Angie had just left a high-level tech career in Colombia and was in the midst of a 16-month sabbatical, rediscovering the rhythms of life through pilgrimage, spiritual study, and slow food. Gus had recently stepped away from the fast-paced world of professional kitchens in search of a more grounded and intuitive way to live.

Their connection was instant, and their shared love for conscious nourishment quickly became the seed of something bigger: a life project rooted in food education, creativity, and holistic wellness.

Pausa y Danza is the fruit of that seed… a space to teach, share, and remember. It’s a fusion of their lived experience, their roots, and their desire to build a more intentional, joyful, and connected way of life through food and movement.

MEET DANZANTE ANGIE

Angie’s journey with food began at home, guided by her mother’s hands: always rooted in nature, always seeking wellness. Watching her mom unlearn and relearn how to eat in harmony with the earth planted the first seed of curiosity.

That seed blossomed into a lifelong exploration. Angie cycled through nearly every nutritional approach, from vegetarianism to veganism, and other diets with strict rules and restrictions. Some choices brought breakthroughs, others led to breakdowns. She faced anemia, hair loss, skin issues, and digestive struggles. Her body became her teacher.

These challenges ignited her study of nutrition, body systems, and the deeper why behind how we nourish ourselves. Over time, Angie also made a conscious decision to let go of alcohol, not out of discipline, but out of self-respect. She wanted to embody the energy she was cultivating.

Eventually, she left her job at Amazon Web Services and took a 16-month sabbatical to reconnect with purpose. She walked the Camino de Santiago, studied spiritual practices in Mexico, took culinary courses in Paris, and learned to bake bread in silence. Each experience brought her closer to what she truly values: simplicity, presence, and care.

Today, Angie eats with deep awareness rather than labels. Her philosophy is that food should be intuitive, connected to the earth, and rooted in ritual. Through Pausa y Danza, she helps others heal their relationship with food, not as a set of rules, but as a dance of nourishment, clarity, and joy.

MEET PAUSISTA GUS

Gus’s story begins in the kitchens of his grandmothers in Colombia: spaces filled with warmth, chaos, celebration, and shared meals. From a young age, he saw food as more than sustenance. It was love, memory, and belonging.

His food consciousness sparked while baking whole grain bread with his mother, leading him to question where ingredients came from and how they affect the body. But it was a spontaneous trip to Colombia’s Caribbean coast, selling bread on the beach, that shifted everything. He abandoned his law studies, enrolled in culinary school at night, and stepped fully into the world of cooking.

Years in professional kitchens brought growth and discipline, but also burnout. The long hours and high-pressure environment often left no room for the cook’s own nourishment. Eventually, Gus realized he needed to leave that world behind.

He moved to Mexico and began to rediscover food on his own terms. Without the weight of performance, he returned to rhythm, intuition, and slowness. He began focusing on the origin of ingredients, the energy of preparation, and the healing power of intentional cooking.

Pausa y Danza is his way of offering everything he's learned (and unlearned) through years of personal and professional transformation. He sees food as a sacred act of service, not something to master, but something to feel. For Gus, nourishment is a creative, joyful, and deeply human experience, one meant to be shared.
